THE ESFA MINI-SERIES
The final two papers in this issue of the Journal by De Vries et al. describe a collaborative smoking prevention project involving six European nations. A third paper presenting results from this intervention will appear in the next issue of the journal [18(6)]. This will be followed by a fourth Commentary paper, which will summarize the reactions of a group of researchers and academics to all three papers, and, more generally, to the ESFA Project itself. De Vries et al. kindly agreed with us that not only would it be interesting to have the thoughts and feelings of a Commentary Group about the Project, but it would also be useful to have their views and opinions about Community Intervention Trials in general. In fact, the Group has been invited to present their responses to any issues of significance to contemporary health education that might be triggered by members reading the three papers. Readers will, of course, be welcome to register their own reactions to the papers and the Commentary Group's deliberations.
