Condom use and concern about AIDS

David V. McQueen and Daan G. Uitenbroek

Research Unit in Health and Behavioural Change, University of Edinburgh 17 Teviot Place, Edinburgh EH1 2QZ, UK

This paper examines changes in condom use and concern about AIDS in Scotland. The findings are based upon a sub-analysis of data from 6584 respondents aged between 18 and 44 years, collected between July 1987 and May 1989. From the analysis it appears that concern probably exerts a positive influence on condom use. Health education messages which raise concern are discussed in light of these results.
